Scientists have recently discovered the Higgs Boson, the God Particle, in atoms. I'm not much of a scientist, but as a spiritualist, I see the God Particle in each one of us. And the God Particle in each one of us is love.

Very Superstitious?

We sold our house in Holland! Hooray! I said to my wife, "Isn't it great that we sold our house without even burying a statue of St. Joseph in the yard." Yes! A victory over superstition! My wife said rather sheepishly, "Well, I did bury a statue of St. Joseph about three weeks ago, just before we got the offer on our house." Yikes! A victory for superstition?

Earth and Heaven

A child is born and immediately put into a room and held there, nurtured in body, mind and spirit, except for never seeing the outside world. Then the child turns 18, becoming an adult, and is told of an abundant earth, a sunlit sky, magnificent mountains and shimmering seas. Will the adult believe there is such a wondrous place? Are we not in the same situation as that adult when it comes to heaven?

Rational & Irrational Thoughts?

I think I'm a relatively rational person. I think the earth is billions of years old, rather than thousands of years old. I think human beings evolved over millions of years and we're still evolving. And I think people are born gay or straight and it's not something they choose. But then I have some relatively irrational thoughts. I think bug spray attracts bugs. I think sunscreen causes skin cancer. And I sometimes think that God, in some form, exists.

A prayer for the 4th of July

Let us lift up our spirits.
All that is Holy, Loving, Sacred and True:
May we be grateful that we live in the greatest country on earth.
May we be mindful that other people in other lands believe they too live in the greatest country on earth.
May we be hopeful that one day we will all see life on earth as being about cooperation not competition.
May we be helpful in achieving this elusive goal.
